Ross Photography by Benjamin Ross
I'm Benjamin Ross, a freelance photographer and creative based in Medway, working under the name Ross Photography, a creative vessel I have used since the very start of my journey in 2019. Ross Photography has always been more than just a portfolio; it’s a space where I can share my work while keeping my professional and personal worlds distinct.
My creative path began long before I picked up a camera. I’ve always known I wanted to work in the creative industries, and that drive took shape in June 2019 when, at the age of 14, I co-founded the Medway Youth Climate Change Movement (MYCCM). As Executive Director of Community Liaison, and later Outreach. I coordinated campaigns, created programmes and graphics, and used my skills to raise awareness of environmental issues. MYCCM also gave me my first taste of public relations, youth engagement, and community-led creativity, experiences that later shaped my photographic approach.
In 2021, I began my Level 3 Diploma in Photography at MidKent College, where my focus quickly turned toward portrait, product, and advertising photography. Over the next two years, I refined my style, built a strong portfolio, and completed a Final Major Project centred on commercial advertising.

By 2023, I wasn’t ready to commit to a full university degree, but I wanted to deepen my practice. That September, I joined the first cohort of the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design at the newly established Medway School of Arts, set up in response to the closure of UCA Rochester. As a Medway resident, supporting this new chapter for local arts education felt personal.
During this time, my work began reaching wider audiences. In March 2024, I exhibited in 40:40 at The Historic Dockyard Chatham — a photographic project documenting 40 years of change at the site. The following month, I co-launched Dockyard 40: Transform, a commissioned exhibition celebrating the people and businesses transforming the dockyard, which toured multiple Medway venues.
Beyond photography, I’ve worked extensively in creative consulting, marketing, and arts development. In 2023, I became Marketing & Development Manager for the New Genesis Film Festival in Brighton, where our debut event screened 10 films, sold over 125 tickets, and raised more than £650 for Mind UK. Most recently, I founded Medway In Focus, a platform championing local photography through talks, workshops, and community projects.
I’m currently studying for my HND in Photography at Medway School of Arts, continuing to explore storytelling, social issues, and accessibility in the creative industries. My clients have included The Historic Dockyard Chatham, RICS, Ideas Test, Chubb Insurance, Medway School of Arts, MidKent College, Kent Chamber of Commerce, and the New Genesis Film Festival.
This is just the beginning — and Ross Photography will keep evolving as I grow my career in the photography industry.
