My Story

My Name is Benjamin Ross, and I am a Photographer Based in Medway, working under the name Ross Photography, this acts as my creative vessel, an alias name I have used since the beginning of my creative journey starting right back to 2019. Ross Photography allows me to share my work, allowing me to keep my Professional and Private life separate.

So how did it all begin?

Since a very young age I have always had an interest in creativity, and I've always known I wanted to do something in the creative industry so my progression started then, with the first major step starting in 2019.

2019- in June 2019, at the age of 14, I founded an organisation with 3 other people my age, called Medway Youth Climate Change Movement, where I served as the Executive Director of Community Liaison, this is an organisation I am proud of and have worked alongside ever since Co-Founding it, from June 2021 to October 2021 I also gained the role of Executive Director of Outreach were I was in charge of coordinating both online and in person activity using my creative skills to create programs and Graphics to spread the awareness of Environmental Issues, Since October I have continued to support MYCCM, by Making Ross Photography a Voluntary Contractor, where I continue to take Photos and handle the organisations Creative Media, to find out more about my role at MYCCM, check out my Client Page

Working in a Public Relations position at MYCCM originally gave me an interest in Becoming a Freelance PR specialist, which gave me the Idea to study Photography at College

2021- In September 2021, I started my first year Level 3 Diploma in Photography at college, which is where some of my work featured in the Portfolio Section was created including, Advertisement and Mental Health Awareness week. by November 2021 my intended career path shifted direction, learning more about photography and the industry, gave me a greater idea of pathways/careers I could pursue, I found a love for Portrait and Advertisement Photography.

2022- In September I Began my Second year at college gaining my Level 3 Extended Diploma in photography, where I took a more direct approach with my work building on my portfolio and developing my creative practice. during this year I specialised in Studio Portrait And Product Photography, where I finished the year with my Final Major Project focused on Advertisement.

2023- After Completing my Extended Diploma I decided I wasn't ready to pursue a full university degree. in the March of 2023 I was completing work experience for the Launch Event for Medway School of Arts, a local art university set up by Midkent college to reintroduce Higher education in the art in the Medway are, this was after the announcement of  UCA in Rochester closing, I decided that the environment and the course that was on offer would allow me to strengthen myself and learn a new form of creative practice, and so in September 2023 I joined the first cohort of students to study a Foundation Diploma in art and design at the medway school of arts located in the historic Dockside!

March 2024- in March I took part in producing work for my first exhibition, I took a series of images that are on display in The Historic Dockyard Chatham, located in the Smithery building, this is for part of their 40:40 Exhibition, 40:40 is a photographic exhibition in a then and now format labelled as "40 photographs showing 40 years of development"

April 2024- On April 25th 2024, I launched my first private exhibition alongside 4 other students. Dockyard 40: Transform, was commissioned by The Historic Dockyard Chatham, Medway School of Arts and Nucleus Arts. It is a Photographic Exhibition exploring and celebrating the employees, volunteers, businesses and residents that have transformed the dockyard. The exhibition launched in the Halpern Gallery before going on a tour of Medway.

And this is where my current progression is up to, however, there's much more to come, stick around and follow Ross Photography, as i grow and turn it into a career in the Photography industry!
